ISLAMABAD – All accountability court proceedings against President Asif Ali Zardari were stopped as he has been granted presidential immunity in the criminal cases.

Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana issued a written decision on the petition filed by Asif Zardar, seeking presidential immunity in the NAB cases related to Park Lane and Toshakhana vehicles.

The court, while halting proceedings against President Asif Ali Zardari, ruled that as long as Asif Ali Zardari is the President of the country, proceedings against him cannot proceed further.

A petition was filed by Asif Ali Zardari under Article 248 (2) of the Constitution, in which it was asserted that criminal proceedings could not be continued against him since he is the president of the country.

During the hearing, the NAB lawyers did not raised objections or opposed the petition.

The Accountability Court ruled that under Article 248 (2) of the Constitution, no case can be filed against the President of the country, and no action can be taken against him, therefore the petition for presidential immunity from Asif Ali Zardari’s cases is accepted.
