Owners of what is being described as the largest nursery market of Asia in Pattoki staged a protest against fasting diminishing nursery business, demanding the government special measures to protect the sector.
Owners of all the nurseries protested unavailability of work and demanded that big plants be planted instead of small plants during plantation being carried out under the Billion Tree Tsunami program.
A large number of owners including Chaudhry Farooq, Muhammad Asif, Noman Tahir, Mohammad Salman, Abdul Haq, Muhammad Ashfaq, Muhammad Bilal Mushtaq, Altaf Mushtaq and Abu Sufyan told the media that ban should be lifted from the import of plants. They argued that import will help them grow more such plants for export, which will generate huge foreign exchange for the country.
They said that an institute should be set up in Pattoki to educate people about plant growth and turn nurseries into an industry.
