ISLAMABAD – Senior bureaucrat Asad Rehman Gilani has been posted to post of Secretary to the Prime Minister amid shuffle in bureaucracy.
The federal government posted PAS Officer Gilani as Secretary to new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Gilani, who was previously posted as Additional Secretary Incharge, Power Division, gets the coveted slot under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973.
The senior bureaucrat is considered close to Prime Minister, and he remained in important ministries as Secretary in charge during the last two years.
In his 27-year-old career, Gilani holds several portfolios including Secretary in charge Board of Investment, Industries and Production and Power division. He also served as chairman of NADRA after exit of Tariq Malik.
Gilani joined the service in the 90s and holds experience in multiple sectors and jurisdictions. He served in provincial governments and held positions in departments overseeing Transport, Environment, Housing, Food, Agriculture, Home Affairs, Law, Prosecution, and Local Government.
The senior bureaucrat holds degrees in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School and Medicine from the King Edward Medical University. He completed Edward S. Mason Fellowship in Public Policy from Harvard University in 2009, and also attended a course on International Political Economy at the London School of Economics.
