All set for five days anti-polio swoop

A five-day polio campaign would be launched in Multan district from August 2, which will continue till August 6. All arrangements have been finalised for the successful conduct of the anti-polio campaign.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ali Shehzad in which arrangements for the campaign was reviewed.

The meeting was attended by officers of the Health Department, the Social Welfare and Education departments and representatives of WHO and UNICEF.

Assistant Commissioner (City) Khawaja Umair Mahmood and Assistant Commissioner (Saddr) Adnan Badr were also present in the meeting while Assistant Commissioner (Shujaabad) Nasir Shehzad Dogar and Assistant Commissioner (Jalalpur Pirwala) Mudassar Mumtaz attended the meeting through video link.

Speaking at the meeting, DC Ali Shehzad said that Pakistan is moving towards eradication of polio as only one case was reported from Balochistan in the current year so far. He said that the goal is to vaccinate 100% children against polio during the anti-polio campaign.

The desired results can be achieved through training of polio workers and all the Assistant Commissioners of the district should carry out effective monitoring of the campaign to make it a success. He also warned that no negligence would be tolerated in the anti-polio campaign.

Briefing the meeting, DHO Dr Muhammad Ali Mehdi said that more than 750,000 children would be vaccinated during the campaign. He said that 2,991 teams have been formed for the campaign.
