Muslims in Pakistan and across the world used to observe Aitkaf in the last 10 days of Ramadan every year, and during this period, they isolate themselves in mosque and end their seclusion upon sighting the moon for Eidul Fitr.
As most people opted the closest mosque near their house to observe Aitkaf, with the sole purpose of praying.
Aitkaf at iconic mosques like Faisal Mosque holds special significance for Pakistanis. The mosque nestled in heart of Margalla Hills offers a picturesque view of the capital.
In 2024, at least 300 people will observe Aitkaf in the iconic contemporary mosque of Faisal Masjid. Applicants for Aitkaf at Faisal Mosque will be allotted slots. The administration announced to distribute slots on a ‘first come first serve’ basis.
This time, the administration has picked 10th Ramadan as the last day to submit applications this year. Those who are interested in sitting for Aitkaf need to get an application form from the Islamic Centre.
Rs5,000 fee needs to be paid via bank draft along with the application. Applicants are required to submit a copy of their national identity card and two passport-sized photos with the form. The maximum age limit for Aitkaf has been set at 60 years.
After registration, people need to arrive at Faisal mosque before Iftar on 20th day of Ramadan.
For the unversed, those observing Aitkaf need to make own arrangements for Sehri and Iftar. The administration offers books and copy of the Quran to participants while lectures are organized for those observing Aitkaf.
