Aisam-ul-Haq becomes president of Pakistan Tennis Federation

ISLAMABAD – Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi was elected as president of Pakistan Tennis Federation on Monday.

Haq secured eight votes to notch the top slot of the federation while his rival Asghar Nawaz could get only 7 votes out of 15.

Retired Colonel Zia was elected as the Secretary-General of the Tennis Federation, and Arif Qureshi was elected as the finance Secretary. The new officials of the Pakistan Tennis Federation were elected for a term of 4 years.

Earlier, Pakistan lost the Davis Cup tie against India, reaching the World Group One.

After singles, Pakistan could not secure victory in the doubles match as well.

After 60 years, the Indian tennis team visiting Pakistan to play the Davis Cup displayed excellent play not only in singles but also in doubles matches.

On the second day of the Davis Cup tie, India secured a decisive victory by winning the doubles match with a score of three sets to zero. In the doubles match, the Indian pair of Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni defeated Aisam ul Haq and Muzammil Murtaza 2-6, 6-7.

In the singles matches, India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan won the first singles match against Pakistan’s Aisam ul Haq with scores of 7-6, 6-7, and 0-6, while Sasi Kumar Mukund won the second singles match against Aqeel Khan with scores of 5-7 and 3-6.

After the defeat in the playoffs round, Pakistan moved to the Davis Cup World Group Two.
