The 40th Annual International three days online Symposium of King Edward Medical University concluded
Eminent speakers from USA, UK and Pakistan deliberated on current Covid pandemic and important ongoing research in the field of medicine. The chief guest, Federal Minster of education and professional development Mr Shafqat Mehmood while addressing the audience said, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, we have been able to effectively control the first wave of Covid pandemic and with the help of our front line soldiers insha Allah the second wave soon be controlled. He appreciated the efforts of King Edward Medical University and attached hospitals in quality service delivery during covid pandemic. He specially appreciated Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal and his team members including HOD medicine Prof Bilquis Shabbir for their role in provision of tele medicine services to the patients in general and covid in particular. Earlier on, special assistant to Prime Minister Pakistan, Dr Faisal Sultan highlighted the effective strategy and response by the government in covid due to effective national policy the country was appreciated over the globe.
President KEMCAANA, Dr Samia Nawab Waseem highlighted the contributions of its organisation for KEMU. She specially mentioned that in current year, 52 Kemcolians got residency in USA which is one of the highest number. This speaks of the highest quality in medical education and training at King Edward Medical University under current leadership. President APPNA, Prof Naheed Usmani appreciated the great input of all the speakers and declared this webinar as an examplory one where the attendance was over 400. Guest of honor of Symposium, Secretary health Washington state Mr Umair Shah shared his experience of Covid and appreciated the efforts of KEMU alumni at USA. President Pakistan academy of family physician, Dr Tariq Mehmood Mian highlighted the importance of primary health care and implementation of referral system. President APPNA, Prof Naheed Usmani, acknowledged the efforts of Prof Saira Afzal in strengthening and training of family physicians at King Edward Medical University and she announced a collaborative program between KEMU and APPNA to expand the specialty across the country. She said that filling the void was necessary.
Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University, Prof Khalid Masood Gondal mentioned in the concluding section that the KEMU has already started new fellowship program in emergency medicine, breast diseases, critical medicine and certification in medical education, medical editing and basic and advanced courses for primary healthcare physicians. King Edward Medical University will establish the institute of infectious diseases in its new campus at Kala Shah Kaku Mureedke Road. Chair APPNA winter meeting, Dr Muhammad Haaeeb concluded the seminar by thanking Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University, Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, president APPNA Prof Naheed Usmani, president KEMCANNA Dr Samia Waseem.
