President of Pakistan has approved to confer President’s Award for Pride of Performance (PAPP) on Ijaz Ahmad Assistant Director FIA/CCC Lahore for showing excellent performance in Elimination of Manufacturing / Selling of Spurious Drugs/ Stents and Illegal Trade of Human Organs. Ijaz Ahmad was assigned the task by former Director FIA Punjab, Dr. Muhammad Usman to unearth the unregistered/spurious and substandard sale / purchase of drugs, stents and human organs.
The said officer successfully unearthed the illegal sale / purchase of stents and other cardiac devices in the country. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter, The Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan took the Suo Moto Notice. The Apex Court showed great interest being a matter of public interest and treated the matter as a National issue. The stent scam was also highlighted in national & international electronic and print media as a national issue.
The FIA action resulted in elimination of trade / use of unregistered stents, inclusion of experts in registration board for registration of stents, implementation of packaging and labeling rules, elimination of illegal business of stents, and fixation of prices of stents. As a result all of the above initiatives, finally the medical devices rules 2017 were approved and promulgated for the first time in the history of Pakistan.
The illegal business of human organs was on the rise in Pakistan as the common masses were being bereft of their organs for a meager sum of money. Observing such a dismal situation, the Ministry of Interior directed FIA to look into the matter and uproot the loathsome trade of human organs. Ijaz Ahmad Assistant Director FIA once again performed exceedingly well in this regard and conducted various raids and arrested the culprits. Two major gangs were nabbed in EME and Bahria Town Lahore while another was caught in Pir Mahal involved in this heinous crime.
The culprits, having international connections brought Arabs who then traded human organs and illegally got them grafted. The FIA officer, rendered invaluable services in quelling these notorious gangs. His last but not the least achievement was action against spurious drugs. Mr. Ijaz was assigned the task to take action against manufacturing / selling of spurious / sub-standard / unregistered and counterfeit drugs and to prosecute cases in the Drugs Court Lahore. During last 3 years his performance remained excellent and he conducted successful raids against spurious / un-registered / sub-standard drugs.
