Weather update for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan; more monsoon rains predicted

ISLAMABAD – More intermittent monsoon rain-wind/thunderstorms are predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Monday night and Tuesday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate central and southern parts of Pakistan and will likely affect upper parts from tonight.

Under these conditions, more intermittent monsoon rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are predicted in the twin cities, south/upper Punjab, Pothohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Sindh on Monday night and Tuesday. Heavy falls are also predicted at isolated places in northeastern/south Balochistan, upper Sindh, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northeast Punjab, Pothohar region and Kashmir.

Downpours may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Dera Ghazi Khan, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Loralai, Sibbi, Harnai, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Jhal Magsi, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech, Panjgur, Jacobabad, Qamber Shahdad Kot, Larkana, Dadu, Jamshoro, Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujrat and Kashmir.

Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Shikarpur and Khairpur. Landslides may disrupt traffic in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 32-34°C on Tuesday and 31-33°C on Wednesday.

Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 32-34°C on Tuesday and 31-33°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rain-wind/thundershowers occurred in Punjab, Sindh, eastern/southeast Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the last 24 hours.

Chilas remained the hottest places in the country where the maximum temperature was recorded at 43°C. Maximum temperature in Nokkundi and Bunji was recorded at 42°C, and Dalbandin at 41°C.

In Islamabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 33°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 79 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 33°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 69 per cent.
