Former President of Pakistan and President Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Asif Ali Zardari has said that all citizens living in the country are equally entitled to the fruits of the state and Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s Pakistan has to be a safe country for minorities.
In statement on Minorities Day observed on Wednesday, he said that the 1973 Constitution guarantees equal rights to minorities in Pakistan.
“Our great religion Islam teaches freedom of religion and belief to every human being. No One should be allowed to impose their opinion on others under the guise of religion.” Asif Ali Zardari said that the Pakistan Peoples Party will continue to protect the rights of minorities.
He said that minority representation in both houses of parliament needs to be increased. The role of non-Muslim citizens for the independence and development of Pakistan is exemplary.
Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto gave constitutional rights to minorities. The thinking of disregarding minorities’ role in the country must be defeated as it harms the state and society, Asif Zardari added.—INP
