The human rights record of the government came under severe criticism at the launch of the HRCP report 2020 on the status of human rights in the federal capital Islamabad on Wednesday at the National Press Club.
The report said that the National Human Rights Institutions lay dormant during the year.
The National Commission on Human Rights was dysfunctional since May 2019 and the post of Chairperson Women Commission remained vacant since November 2019.
The Commission constituted by the AJK Assembly to document the human rights situation in the region is still not functional.
The report was launched by Coordinator of HRCP Islamabad chapter Ms Nasreen Azhar.
Members of the Islamabad chapter former Senator Farhatullah Babar, educationist Naazir Mahmood and Sadia Bukhari were also present on the occasion.
Nasreen Azhar deplored that freedom of expression remained under serious threat as the government did not heed protest demonstrations held against new curbs on print, electronic and social media and media professionals.
The ex-Senator Farhatullah Babar said that enforced disappearances continued even in the federal capital and at least three cases of enforced disappearance had been reported in the federal capital during the year 2020.
