The CCPO Lahore suspended SHO Shalimar Police Asim Hameed and sent him to the Police Lines. A case was also registered against three officials at the Manawan Police station.
According to sources, the CCPO suspended the SHO following complaint by a private person in which he said that his close relative was detained by the police and demanded Rs275,000, for his release. He claimed that three policemen arrested the man and took bribe for his release.
The policemen who released the accused after taking bribe are said to belong to Shalimar and Gujjarpura police stations and police lines. The CCPO also registered a case against the three policemen under the provisions of bribery, negligence and carelessness in service. The SHO has also been suspended.
It may be recalled that former SHO Raza Jaffery and three other officials, who were suspended for setting up a private torture cell in Gujjarpura a year ago, were remanded in custody by the CCPO and a case was registered against them. CCPO Muhammad Omar Sheikh remanded four policemen, including an inspector, in custody. Inspector ASI Jafari and three ASIs Imran, Shehzad and Imran were also remanded in custody. A civilian was also killed during illegal detention of citizens for bribery.
