The 977th annual Urs celebrations of Hazrat Syed Ali bin Usman Al-Hajwiri, popularly known as Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh, began here on Tuesday.
The three-day celebrations of the great Sufi of the subcontinent began with rite of Chadar Poshi. Punjab Auqaf Minister Pir Syed Saeedul Hassan laid the chadar. He advised the devotees to wear masks to protect themselves from Coronavirus. According to details, the shrine was decorated with flowers and illuminated with colourful lights. A shuttle service has also been launched for the first time for the devotees due to closure of the road to avoid traffic jam. Milk will be served to devotees at special stalls, called sabeels. Food will be provided to devotees and 600 pots will be cooked on a daily basis during the three days. Halwa will be prepared on the third day of Urs.
Auqaf Manager Gulab Irshad said that preparations are complete and best facilities will be provided to the visitors. Devotees from all over the country continue to flock to attend the Urs.
Devotees performed Sufi dance at Bhatti Chowk and also attended offered Fateha at the grave. In addition, the three days of the event are being monitored by 133 CCTV cameras. More than 2,000 policemen are on duty at various locations.
