48th Meeting of Governing Board of Islamic University of Technology in Dhaka

The 48th Meeting of the Governing Board of Islamic University of Technology (IUT), a subsidiary organ of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), was held on 19-20 December 2022 in Dhaka. Ambassador Askar Mussinov, Assistant of Secretary General for Science and Technology, represented H.E Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, the OIC Secretary-General in the meeting.

Prof. Dr. Abdallah Saleh Bakhit, Advisor to the OIC Secretary-General, Dr. Faisal Al-Sharabi, Director General of Administrative and Financial affairs, and Ms Aida Toumi, Responsible for Higher Education affairs in the Department of Science and Technology, were also in attendance from the OIC General Secretariat.

At the start of the meeting, Dr. Saleh Bin Ibrahim Al Qasoumi, from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was elected as Chairman of the Governing Board. Kazakhstan, Chad and Bangladesh were elected as Vice-Chairmen of the Board.

In his welcome address to the meeting on behalf of the OIC Secretary-General, Ambassador Mussinov, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Science and Technology, reiterated the support of the OIC to the IUT. He expressed his appreciation as the university is placed in 401-450 of QS Asia University Rankings for the year 2022. He encouraged the members of board to work in sync to improve the key performance indicators, to build global brand visibility and to develop strategic partnerships by recruiting international academic staff and attracting more international students.

The Board deliberated on many issues including the budget for the fiscal years 2023- 2024 and presented the programs and activities of the University. The Board expressed also its deep appreciation and gratitude to the host government, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for the continuous and valuable support to the IUT.

The members of the Governing Board and the OIC delegation visited the campus of the University, on 20 December 2022, and exchanged views with members of the faculty and staff as well as with the students and alumni of the University.
