The Dengue onslaught continued taking its toll on citizens as three more patients lost the battle to the mosquito-borne dengue virus disease during the past 24 hours.
According to Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, with the three new deaths, death toll from the disease in Punjab has reached 86 so far in the current season.
The secretary informed that as many as 371 new cases of dengue were reported in Punjab during the past 24 hours, adding that of the new cases, 283 were reported in Lahore alone.
So far, the total number of dengue cases reported in the province has risen to 20,558 in the current season so far, he pointed out and added that Lahore has so far reported 15,155 cases of dengue fever.
He said that a total of 993 patients of dengue fever are being currently treated in various hospitals across the province.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says that Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that is common in warm, tropical climates and often peaks during rainy seasons.
Once bitten by a dengue-infected mosquito, the virus takes four-to-10 days to affect the body. Its symptoms can be mild, similar to the common flu, or severe such as fever, headaches, pain behind the eyes and nausea.
