Peshawar Zalmi has added even more firepower to its batting line-up picking up Sri Lanka’s limited overs captain Dasun Shanaka for this year’s Pakistan Super League.
Shanaka will replace Sherfane Rutherford in the Zalmi team after the West Indian was unable to commit to this year’s competition after picking up an injury during UAE’s ILT20.
His absence left an opening in the Zalmi team which Dasun Shanaka will hope to overcome.
The like the West Indian, Shanaka also bats left-handed but arguably does not possess the same frightening hitting power instead relying on his savvy strokeplay to get the job done.
Shanaka also joins his countrymate Bhanuka Rajapaksa on the Babar Azam-led side. The Sri Lankan also led his country to the 2022 Asia Cup title over Azam’s Pakistan team.
The Peshawar side has also been boosted by the arrival of Rovman Powell as they look to mount a serious challenge in this year’s PSL.
Zalmi won their opening game against Karachi Kings and face their first real test in Multan Sultans tonight.
Powell will be available for the game but whether he makes the playing XI is uncertain while the match has come too soon for Shanaka to be in any consideration.
