Federal Minister for Education & Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood on Thursday said writers and poets could play crucial role and support Kashmiris in their struggle for right of self-determination by highlighting their plight in their writings.
Unlike others, writers have quite an access to almost all the segments of society and people listened to and read their works, said the federal minister.
Shafqat Mehmood was addressing as Chief Guest a special seminar on Kashmir titled “Solidarity with Kashmiris in the context of Books Published on Kashmir” organized by the National Book Foundation (NBF) at the Ahmed Faraz Auditorium.
Federal Secretary, National History and Literary Heritage (NH&LH) Dr NNadeem Shafique Malik, Managing Director (MD) NBF Dr Inamul Haq Javed, senior writer and retired bureaucrat Masood Mufti, columnist Ayesha Masood Malik and poet Mehboob Zafar also addressed the audience on the occas-
ion.
A large number of writers, poets and members of civil society attended the seminar.
Shafqat Mehmood said Pakistani writers and authors have played an unforgettable role for the Kashmir Movement and Freedom Fighters.
They wrote books on Kashmir, composed poems on the struggling Kashmiris to highlight their struggle against the occupying forces of Indian Army.
In their writings they used different angles and techniques to project Kashmir Cause on international level.
He said that Kashmiris and Muslims in India were facing the vicious psyche of Hindutwa.
He assured Pakistan Government would utilize all its efforts to draw the world attention towards Kashmiris’ plight.
Secretary NH&LH Dr Nadeem Shafique Malik paid rich tributes to the struggling Kashmiris against the occupying forces. Kashmiris in the Indian Held Kashmir (IHK) cannot be suppressed by any constitutional measure or by use of blatant force, he said.
Masood Mufti said extremist Hindus of the BJP had divided human beings into different categories and never tolerated anyone else but Hindus in India.
Today, in the backdrop of the current situation, the Two Nation Theory stands all the more relevant and even those Muslim leaders of India who opposed division of India in 1947 are now forced to say that Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was right when he said Hindus and Muslims were two separate natio-
ns.
Earlier, MD National Book Foundation Prof. Dr. Inamul Haq Javed welcomed the guests and spoke in detail about the seminar.
Ayesha Masood Malik introduced the books written on Kashmir in her research paper and informed about the effort of other writers who did a lot of written work on Kashmir in their books.
A book exhibition featuring books written on Kashmir was also arranged on the occas-
ion.
