Who will be the next emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan?

KARACHI – Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) has initiated the process to elect its new emir as head of the party’s election commission has recommended three names.

JIP spokesperson Qaiser Sharif said the names of current emir Sirajul Haq, Liaqat Baloch and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman have been recommended for the position.

He said the party members can also suggest any other name if they find it suitable. He said the process for election of new emir will be completed by March 31, 2024, adding that the election commission president will announce the results in April 2024.

The spokesman of Jamaat-e-Islami said that according to the constitution, regular elections are held at all levels of the party, adding that the election of the emir of Jamaat-e-Islami is held every 5 years as per the constitution.

In March 2019, Sirajul Haq had been re-elected as emir (chief) of the country’s mainstream religious party — for another five-year term. He was first elected to the party’s top position in 2014.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman is currently serving as president of JI’s Karachi chapter. He is an engineer by profession with 20 years of experience in industrial and big residential projects of water treatment solutions.
