LAHORE – Dense fog/smog and cold wave prevailed in Lahore and the plains of Pakistan on Sunday with experts predicting the harsh weather conditions to persist during the next couple of days.
Freezing weather prevailed in northern areas of Pakistan and north Balochistan.
Leh remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 12 degrees Celsius below freezing.
Lahore’s minimum temperature was recorded at 05 C.
Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 93 per cent.
Dense fog/smog prevailed in Islamabad, the Potohar region and plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Fog update for Motorways
Less visibility forced the closure of Motorways (Peshawar-Swabi, Swabi-Islamabad, Islamabad-Kallar Kahar, Kallar Kahar-Pindi Bhattian, Pindi Bhattian-Lahore, Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad, Lahore-Abdul Hakim, Sialkot-Lahore, Faisalabad-Multan, Multan-Sukkur and Mianwali-Dera Ismail Khan).
It also disrupted traffic on the National Highway and other inter and intra-city roads besides affecting flight operations and the schedule of passenger trains.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of the country.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and foggy weather is expected in Lahore and parts of Pakistan on Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday.
Freezing weather is expected in northern areas of the country and north Balochistan.
Lahore’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 04-06 C on Monday and 05-07 C on Tuesday.

Dense fog/smog will likely prevail in Islamabad, Potohar regions, plains of Punjab (Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Mangla, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Multan, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan and surroundings), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Frost will likely prevail at a few places in Kashmir during morning hours.
