LAHORE – Former Pakistan cricket legend Waqar Younis is likely to resign from his position as Advisor on Cricket Affairs to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi mere days after assuming the role.
After his appointment, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) published a job advertisement for the same position, hinting at a potential replacement for Waqar.
Waqar had initially appeared alongside Chairman Naqvi in a press conference following his appointment. However, it has been learnt that the former fast bowler has been absent from the office for several days.
The sources said that some officials, particularly within the International Cricket department, were hesitant to work with Waqar, which contributed to his frustration.
Waqar Younis may instead shift his focus to a mentoring role for a team participating in the Champions Cup, slated to commence next month.
Waqar’s decision to step down, however, is not connected to Pakistan’s recent defeat in the Rawalpindi Test against Bangladesh.
