LAHORE – The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued warning to the Pakistani citizens, who are not applying for the national identity card (NIC) despite reaching the age of 18.
As per Section 9 (1) of NADRA Ordinance 2000, it is mandatory for citizens to obtain the ID card from the authority within 90 days of reaching the age of 18 years.
It warned that failure to apply for the ID card within the given time period may result in up to 6 months imprisonment or Rs50,000 fine. The competent authority can impose both punishments on the violator.
NADRA is the competent authority to issue various identity documents to the citizens, including the national identity card. The holder of the NIC can enjoy various benefits while he/she can be denied essential services in absence of it.
National Identity Card (NIC) is issued to the citizens of Pakistan. It is a blend of state-of-the-art technology and well-defined business rules to guarantee its authenticity and validity. The unique 13 digit identification number is recognized all over the country.
The ID card is the first requirement of individuals as it is mandatory to obtain documents like license, NTN, bank account, passport, cellular connection etc.
As per the law, every citizen of Pakistan, 18 years and above, is eligible for NIC.
