UoN signs collaboration agreement with ICCBS, COMSTECH

University of Nairobi has entered into two collaborative agreements with the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences and Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC.

Prof. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary, Director, ICCBS, University of Karachi paid a courtesy call on the UoN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama and announced that ICCBS has 200 postgraduate scholarships for Africa and Kenya has been grossly under represented on the beneficiaries for these scholarships. Prof. Choudhary expressed his hope that through this collaborative agreement that UoN will send more researchers to Pakistan.

He mentioned the State-of-the-art equipment that they have invested in, to equip their laboratories. He also mentioned that Kenya and Pakistan have been working closely on Genomes since 1960’s . On his part, the Vice Chancellor welcomed the collaboration and he emphasized on the importance of implementing the agreement. Prof. Kiama said he was keen to visit Pakistan and learn more about the Institution’s research portfolio, the VC was responding to an invite to visit the University made by the Director ICCBS.

Also Present during the signing was Natural Products Research Network for East and Central Africa Executive Secretary, NAPRECA Egypt Chair and NAPRECA Kenya Chair, Dr. Cathering Lukhoba.

The University has since Monday, 31st October, 2022 held a NAPRECA-COMSTECH summer school symposium at the Confucius Institute. The symposium ends on Friday, 4th November, 2022.

NAPRECA, the Natural Products Research Network for East and Central Africa, was conceived by East and Central African scientists who attended the 14th International Symposium on the Chemistry of Natural Products in 1984 in Poland with 13 member countries.
