UNDP delegation called on Provincial Minister HR&MA Ijaz Alam Augustine at camp office of HR on Thursday. Team of UNDP briefed to the minister that UNDP already being working with federal and other provinces and willing to work with Punjab’s HR department.
They told to the minister that aim of united nation development programme (UNDP) was to provide technical and other assistance to support the Human Rights Department in the formulation of a provincial human data collection mechanism.
They further briefed that UNDP Pakistan will develop a capacity building training programme for provincial line departments, including Punjab Treaty Implementation Cell regarding basic human rights obligations as well as implementation of a pilot initiative for capacity building aimed at staff at the district level. It will also facilitate the department in establishing and maintaining linkages with relevant provincial and national stakeholders.
They also desire to sign a MOU regarding improvement of the human rights situation, leading to a more inclusive and peaceful Pakistan. Secretary HR&MA Dr. Irshad Ahmed hoped that through this collaboration, UNDP Pakistan will help regarding awareness raising initiatives on existing rights-based mechanisms in Punjab.
He said that department should avail this opportunity to protect the rights of humans throughout the Punjab. The Minister Ijaz Alam assured them that proposal of UNDP will be considered and hopefully MOU will be signed soon after mutual consultation.
