Ukraine vs Scotland playoff semifinal has been rescheduled for June after being earlier postponed due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The winner of the tie on June 1st will then face Wales on their turf on the 5th of June for the final European slot in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Wales beat Austria 2-1 in their semi-final and will host the playoff final at the Cardiff City Stadium on June 5.

The playoff winner will go into a group at the World Cup in November with England, the United States, and Iran.

Ukraine vs Scotland was was due to be played at Hampden Park in Glasgow on March 24 but Ukraine’s Football Association asked FIFA to postpone the qualifier following Russia’s invasion.

Russia was scheduled to take part in the playoffs but has been suspended from international and domestic football by UEFA and FIFA.

“FIFA would like to thank all of the parties involved for the strong spirit of solidarity and cooperation that has led to this unanimous decision,” world football’s governing body said in a statement.

Most of the Ukraine squad is typically drawn from domestic clubs Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk.

They were unable to resume games on Feb. 26 after a midwinter break as most of their players from other countries left Ukraine to escape the war. The clubs have been playing friendly matches in Europe this week.

The rescheduled playoff games will mean the dates of planned UEFA Nations League games will also move.

To accommodate the postponed playoff ties, UEFA has rescheduled Nations League fixtures involving Scotland, Wales, and Ukraine in June and September, with venues and kickoff times to be confirmed later.
