At least two children died and properties were damaged as flood torrents wrecked havoc in different areas of district Tank after consecutive heavy rainfall in mountainous belt of South Waziristan on Thursday. The devastating flood torrents entered different areas of Tank including Barakheil, Kot Allah Dad, Pir Kuch, Gara Baloch, Gul Imam causing damage to communication means and infrastructure in the area.
A house wall in village Gul Imam collapsed leaving 6-year-old Sajjad and 7-years old Ayesha were severely wounded and were rushed to DHQ Hospital where both succumbed to their wounds. Meanwhile irrigation band at Barakheil was swept away by flash flood torrents which caused severe damage to the standing crops of wheat and gram.
District Administration has launched an emergency rescue and relief operation in different flood affected areas while a shelter room had also been established in Deputy Commissioner Office.
At least nine people have died and 11 others injured during the recent rain-related incidents in different parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. According to the spokesman of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), other than the loss of human lives, the infrastructure including 11 housing units also sustained damage during the ongoing rains.
The PDMA has directed its officials to expedite rescue activities aimed at facilitating the people in the rain-hit districts. ‘We are also in touch with the district administrations and extending complete support to them for rehabilitation of those affected,’ he said.
