ISLAMABAD – Neighboring countries Pakistan and Iran are apparently on the verge of collapse in diplomatic relations after Iranian missiles killed two children and Pakistan retaliated strikes into Iran.
Islamabad said its strikes targeted militants hideouts in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province.
Amid cross-border intrusions and heightened regional tension, the country’s interim prime minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar announced cutting short his visit to Davos where he attended the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Soon after his arrival in the country tonight, Kakar will convene National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Friday.
In the NSC huddle, the top administration will discuss prevailing situation as Islamabad retaliated against unprovoked violation of its airspace by Iran and targeted Baloch insurgent’s safe havens.
Sources familiar with development said the Chief of Army Staff, Naval and Air Force chief will review law and order situation in the country, and will discuss general elections.
The top administration will discuss the operation against Baloch militants in Iran. Ministries of defense and foreign affairs members will also attend the upcoming huddle.
