Tent-pegging competition marks final day of Jashn-e-Baharan Festival 2024

The Colorful tent-pegging event marked the culmination of Jashn-e-Baharan Festival 2024 with a large number of people attending the final event in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

The event organized by the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) in Gorakhpur turned out to be a huge success. Well-known tent-pegging clubs from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Azad Kashmir participated in the competitions and spectators were enthralled by the equestrian and tent pegging skills of the horse riders. Commissioner Rawalpindi Amir Khattak distributed prizes among the winners of the competition.

Visitors from the twin cities and nearby towns witnessed the thrilling game of gladiators and horsemanship in Gorakhpur held under the patronage of the PHA.

The horse riders in Gorakhpur with enthralling skills of horse riding mesmerized the public throughout the day and highlighted the beauty of the ancient sport of tent pegging.

Director General (DG) PHA Rawalpindi Ahmed Hasan Ranjha welcomed Chief Guest Commissioner Rawalpindi Amir Khattak to the venue and appreciated the efforts of equestrian and tent pegging clubs and visitors for making the event a successful festival.

More than fifty Tent Pegging clubs from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir participated in Commissioner Tent Pegging Festival Rawalpindi 2024.

Addressing the concluding ceremony, Director General (DG) PHA Ahmed Hasan Ranjha said that tent pegging was a sport that was rapidly gaining popularity from villages to cities adding that tent-pegging had significant importance in the sport activities of PHA.

He spoke about the recognition and encouragement of this sport at the national level, Pakistan can gain significant recognition at the global level.

The participants of the tent-pegging clubs wearing colorful turbans at the fair said that tent-pegging was a sport of the brave and high-spirited youth and the recognition at the government level is the main reason for the fast growing popularity of this game.

The participants of the tent pegging festival lauded the arrangements on part of PHA for the event adding that patronage from the government will ultimately popularize the ancient game of tent pegging. DG, PHA Ahmed Hassan Ranjha said that tent-pegging and horse riding demonstrated Pakistan’s traditional and cultural rural background and PHA will make every effort to promote and support tent-pegging activities for recreation of the public.
