Muhammad Saleem Rajput, Secretary of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, has mandated that subordinate officers in Hyderabad ensure a full recovery of professional tax, entertainment tax, and motor vehicle taxes.

This directive came during a meeting chaired by Rajput, where he reviewed the department’s performance.

The Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) for Professional Tax reported a concerning collection rate of only 23 percent of the Rs 38 million quarterly tax target, indicating significant underperformance. In light of this, Rajput announced that a letter expressing displeasure would be issued to the responsible ETO. Rajput further warned the ETO responsible for Cotton Fees to enhance performance and meet the designated targets by the end of December 2024.

He instructed the officer to obtain the cotton generation report from the Sindh Agriculture Department to facilitate tax collection. Deputy Director of Excise-III received commendation for surpassing expectations by collecting Rs 286.63 million, exceeding the quarterly target of Rs 265 million, achieving a commendable 108 percent.

However, he was urged to conduct regular road checks to recover outstanding motor vehicle taxes from defaulters.
