Sugar price witnesses increase from Rs10 to Rs15 per kg

KARACHI –  A bad news for the public already suffering from sky-rocketing inflation as price of sugar witnessed an increase from Rs10 to Rs15 per kilogram in the country on Friday.

The speculators and hoarders became active since the beginning of this week to raise the price of sugar which resulted in an increase of 10 to 15 rupees per kilogram.

Large retailers are selling sugar at Rs130 to Rs135 per kilogram while the ex-mill rate reached 115 to 125 rupees. Meanwhile, the smaller retailers are selling sugar for 140 to 150 rupees per kilogram, reflecting an increase of 20 rupees.

The dealers said that the wholesale price of sugar could reach Rs128 per kilogram in December and 133 rupees in January.

On the other hand, it is being said that under the name of future trade, the price could increase by another 8 rupees in January.
