Austrian envoy hails girls’ overwhelming participation in physical sports, terms it a great sign for Pakistan

 

The three-day Girls Sports Carnival organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Islamabad and the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Islamabad concluded here on Sunday at Pakistan Sports Board.

The three-day event pulled thousands of students not only from Islamabad and Rawalpindi but also from across Pakistan including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh and GilgitBaltistan (GB) and the students displayed various skills in different categories of sports and received resounding applause from the audience.

Parliamentary Secretary Farah Naz Akbar, Army Public School System Rawalpindi Brigadier Dr. Muhammad Naveed, Federal Board and Federal Directorate Directors also attended the concluding day event and praised the students’ spirit for competition, perseverance and teamwork.

Chief guest on the concluding day, Ambassador of Austria, Mrs Andrea Wicke praised the sporting spirit of the girl students and particularly mentioned those hailing from the far-flung areas like Swat, Mardan and Malakand. These are very positive signs for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity and will go a long way in development of girls’ personality and prepare them for future challenges, said the Austrian ambassador. She also thanked Secretary Federal Ministry of Education & Professional Training Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani and Chairman of the FBISE Syed JunaidAkhlaq for hosting a lively, competitive event where the girls displayed their immense talent and hidden potential.I congratulate the organizers for this mega event and though I am attending the carnival on its last day I believe the first two days were also lively and interesting as today, she said. The ambassador later along with Chairman HEC, DrMukhtar Ahmed, Secretary Federal Ministry of Education & Professional Training, Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani and Chairman FBISE, Syed JunaidAkhlaq gave away medals, cash prizes and certificates among the winning teams.

On the occasion, the students also displayed the best performing skills, cultural and national songs electrifying the audience with a spirit of patriotism and national unity.

Later the ambassador the stalls in the carnival and feeling very happy, appreciated all the efforts of the women artisans and stallholders. She also did some shopping from the stalls there and showed keen interest in the traditional items put on display there. MsSehrish Khan, Section Officer of the Ministry of Education, escorted the chief guest to various stalls and briefed her about the traditional items prepared by the skilled women artisans and workers.

At the end Secretary Ministry of Education, Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani thanked all the participants and expressed his joy at the large-scale participation by female students, their parents and teachers. He also thanked the organizers and volunteers for making the three-day event a huge success. Our girls are immensely gifted and we must support them to excel in society, he said. Chairman FBISE, Syed JunaidAkhlaq said the Federal Board was not only in the forefront in the field of education but was also playing an active role in the field of sports and this will be our effort to organize more sports competitions.
