KARACHI – Several cities of Sindh, including Karachi, are shivering through cold wave with people trying to find if the provincial government has extended the winter holidays for schools and colleges.

The provincial government has announced all public and private educational institutions in the province will observe winter vacations from December 21 to 31.

“In pursuance of the decision taken in the Sub-Committee meeting of Steering Committee on Education, held on 25th January, 2024, under the Chairpersonship of Honorable Minister for Education Sindh, the Winter Vacation schedule for the academic session 2024 for all Public and Private Educational Institutions under the Administrative Control of College Education Deparament, Government of Sindh shall commence from 21st December, 2024 till 31st December, 2024,” stated the December 17 notification.

As per the schedule, the schools and colleges are set to open from January 1, 2025 (Wednesday).

Update on Extension in Winter Holidays in Sindh

The southern port city of Karachi recently experienced the coldest night of the winter season, with the temperature dropping as low as 8.5 degrees Celsius.

Karachi and other cities have been witnessing cold wave, especially at night for the past few weeks, as a result of the north easterly winds blowing in the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted cold and dry weather in several parts of the country during the next few days.

Amid the persisting chilly conditions, citizens of Sindh hoped that the government would extend the winter holidays.

However, the final decision will be taken by the authorities after reviewing the situation.
