Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon extended heartfelt New Year greetings to the nation, hoping that the year brings happiness to Pakistanis worldwide, including foreigners in Pakistan and those suffering from conflict and oppression. In his message, Memon urged the citizens to celebrate responsibly and emphasized the importance of avoiding actions that could cause harm to others, particularly aerial firing, which is banned by the Sindh government.

He also supported the “No to Aerial Firing” campaign led by First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, encouraging everyone to avoid such practices during the celebrations. Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Sharjeel Memon discussed the ongoing Red Line BRT project, which has faced some challenges but is being pursued with determination by the Sindh government. He clarified that the Sindh government is not delaying the project, despite some issues related to transfers and misinterpretation of decisions during the previous caretaker government.

Memon mentioned that there had been no work done on the project during the 9-month caretaker period, but efforts were immediately resumed after the 2024 elections. Memon acknowledged that the project faces significant challenges, including utility relocations and the presence of critical infrastructure like the K-4 water line and K-Electric poles. However, he assured that the Sindh government is committed to resolving these issues and ensuring the project’s timely completion. The minister stated that the Sindh government is ready for an audit or accountability process and is working tirelessly to address any concerns. Further, Memon highlighted the ongoing work on the Jam Sadiq Bridge, which is expected to be completed by March or April 2025, ahead of its official deadline.

He stressed that these infrastructure projects are crucial for the future of Karachi and are part of the broader vision laid out by the PPP government for the city’s development. In response to questions, Memon also addressed political matters, particularly regarding Imran Khan and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

He criticized Khan for his role in undermining Pakistan’s integrity and defense, alleging that Khan had compromised the country’s security for personal gain. Memon emphasized the PPP leadership’s unwavering commitment to the nation’s sovereignty and defense, citing past sacrifices by the Bhutto family. Additionally, Memon responded to concerns over the situation in Parachinar, expressing sympathy for the victims and urging protestors to ensure their actions do not harm innocent people.

He also mentioned the differences between the Sindh and federal governments, stressing the importance of resolving issues collaboratively for the country’s progress and unity. Sharjeel Memon concluded by inviting the opposition leader and Karachi’s mayor to visit the Red Line BRT project, assuring them of transparency and openness in addressing any concerns. He reiterated the importance of such projects for the long-term benefit of the city’s citizens.
