LAHORE – Shane Watson withdrew from the race to become Pakistan’s head coach for the white ball cricket.
The former Australian all-rounder wanted to respect his current coaching and commentary commitments rather than leaving brief notes, Cricinfo reported.
He is included in the commitments of San Francisco Unicorns, a major league cricket team of the Indian Premier League (IPL) along with coaching the Quetta Gladiators.
The sources close to the player revealed that his family also played role in his decision.
Following his departure from the Quetta Gladiators after the PSL 9 on Friday, Watson already left Pakistan.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is interested in appointing a strong coaching staff for the PCB cricket team under his leadership.
PCB is also considering the possibility of appointing local coaches in collaboration with foreign consultants to fill the vacant position at this time for the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand at home ground.
The T20 series between Pakistan and New Zealand, consisting of five matches, will commence on April 18.
It may be mentioned here that after Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Potock were replaced in their positions last year in November and subsequently transferred to the Lahore National Cricket Academy (NCA) after changes in their duties, they left their respective positions.
Arthur was nominated as the director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team in April 2023 while Bradburn was appointed as the head coach of the Pakistan men’s national team at the beginning of last year.
Potock, a former cricketer from South Africa, worked as a batting coach from April 2023.
According to the PCB, the decision was made amicably among all the parties.
