ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail who had left the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) launched a new political party, the sources close to the development said on Friday.

The sources said that they named their party “Awam Pakistan” [Peoples of Pakistan].

After months of deliberation on the country’s political landscape, they finally launched their own political party.

The sources said that  a video with the tagline “Awam Pakistan: Changing the System’  was shared on the official account of “Awam Pakistan,”  which was reposted by former PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Miftah Ismail.

In the video, disheartened people raised questions about various national issues such as inflation, gas and electricity shortages, misconduct, unemployment, and lack of schools for girls.

The sources said that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Miftah Ismail, and former People’s Party Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar had been working on this project since leaving their parties due to disagreements with party policies in 2022 and 2023.
