ISLAMABAD – The Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) have been directed to exercise “extreme vigilance” and be on alert following the recent terror attacks in the country

The LEAs in all provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan have been asked to take extra security measures to deal with any untoward situation.

A notification issued by Ministry of Interior on Saturday states, “… in view of recent terrorist attack in Anarkali Bazar, Lahore and threat posed by activities of anti-state elements, all provincial and special area governments/Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) are requested to exercise extreme vigilance and be on alert to deal with any untoward situation”.

At least five people were killed and 28 injured in two different terror attacks in Lahore and Islamabad.

Three people were killed and 27 others injured in the explosion at Paan Mandi near Anarkali Bazaar, one of the busiest markets in the Punjab’s capital this week.

In Islamabad, a policeman was shot dead and two others were injured during a gun battle with terrorists at a checkpoint. The police also killed two militants in the process.

On Tuesday, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said a gun attack on police officials in the federal cabinet the previous night was an act of terrorism.

Talking to media after attending funeral prayers of martyred police official, Sheikh Rasheed said that Head Constable Munawwar was on the duty when he embraced martyrdom.

It was not an incident of dacoity or theft, the interior minister said, adding that terrorists had opened fire on the police officials.

He said that authorities needed to remain vigilant as he termed the incident as “purely of terrorism”. Rasheed said that the “sleeper cell” of the terrorists had been tracked down through their motorcycle used in the Monday attack.
