ISLAMABAD – PTI legal eagle Salman Akram Raja has stepped down from his position as Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as internal fissures in Imran Khan’s party deepened.
Sources familiar with development said Salman Raja submitted resignation citing personal reasons, and he even formally submitted his resignation to party leadership.
PTI Chairman, Barrister Gohar, has confirmed the resignation of Salman Akram from coveted post. He was appointed as PTI’s Secretary General by party founder Imran Khan in September. However, his lack of involvement in PTI’s recent protests, particularly the D-Chowk march, led to considerable criticism within the party ranks.
The resignation marks another shift as the party continues to navigate internal challenges and external pressure after a failed PTI protest in the capital.
Imran Khan’s party is facing internal conflicts after the failure of its “do-or-die” protest, with criticism directed at leadership figures like Bushra Bibi and KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur. The protest, which deviated from an agreement to rally at Sangjani and instead moved to D-Chowk, led to clashes with the state and the loss of at least 20 lives.
