Rizwan for ‘WASH’ safety activities

Punjab Emergency Service Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer concluded second Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Covid-19 training workshop organized for Rescue & Safety Officers at the Managers Training Centre (MTC), Emergency Services Academy on Tuesday.
Rescue Service in collaboration with VSO Pakistan took initiative for capacity building of Rescue & Safety Officers (RSOs) to train them as master trainers regarding Sustainable Development Goal 6 to promote WASH in Covid-19 for safety promotion and prevention of emergencies during pandemic in all tehsils/towns of Punjab.
While addressing the ceremony, Dr Rizwan Naseer said that the basic purpose of running such workshop/ trainings is to enhance capacity of the managers to maintain service standards in all districts of the Punjab.
He further asked the Rescue & Safety officers (RSOs) to ensure implementation of WASH related safety activities through engagement of Rescuers at Rescue Station and Community Emergency Response Teams at union Council level.
During closing ceremony, course coordinator Ms Deeba Shahnaz briefed the director general that total 51 Rescue Safety Officers and safety instructors have attended the training workshop from 10th to 14th July, 2020 in two groups.
The trainers from VSO Pakistan, Safety Wing of Emergency Services Academy and Community Safety Wing of Rescue Headquarters conducted two workshops under supervision of course monitor Dr Muhammad Khalid Registrar Academy.
She further explained that the lead trainer Muhammad Ahsan along with team of officers also organized different practical including donning doffing, hand washing technique, waste management and water purification to give detail insight on understanding of WASH with reference to Sustainable Development Goals – 6 and Covid-19, WASH challenges, prevention and spread control, health hygiene and safety, wash providers, rights and responsibilities, waste management, water purification and use of ceramic filter.
On behalf of the participants of the course Muhammad Usman, Rescue Safety Officer, Chiniot said we are really thankful to the Director General and VSO Pakistan for organizing a fruitful workshop in which we learnt many new safety techniques including segregation and incineration of waste, purification of water, proper sanitation and hygiene practices.
He also committed that we all will start the WASH activities from Rescue Stations by segregation of ambulance waste and raise awareness amongst the communities through CERTs in all union councils of Punjab.
The DG further appreciated master trainers from Rescue Headquarters, Emergency Services Academy and VSO Pakistan on organizing successful workshop for middle-managers of the service. He emphasized on the participants of the course to perform duties with sincerity, devotion and dedication as changing minds of community and making them responsible citizen needs role models to be followed for developing safer communities in Pakistan. In the end, DG Rescue distributed certificates amongst the participants.
