The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected the request for an inquiry under the Anti-Money Laundering Act against model Ayyan Ali in the currency smuggling case. The court had received a petition by the customs officials against an earlier verdict passed by the Customs Special Court in Ali’s case. However, the High Court upheld the decision of the Customs Special Court and rejected the appeal of the customs officials. Justice Ghulam Azam Qambrani delivered the reserved verdict. The appeal against the decision of the Customs Special Court had been pending since March 31, 2016. It is pertinent to mention here that Ali was proclaimed an offender after being arrested on March 14, 2015. She attempted to smuggle $506,800 in cash to the UAE, past the Airports Security Force personnel at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad.
