A police retired sub-inspector on Friday laid down his life to rescue a child who was about to be hit by a fast moving train here in the City.
The retired police officer saved the life of the child from the train but could not save himself and was martyred after being hit by the train.
According to the eyewitnesses, retired SI Muhammad Siddique was hit by the train when he attempted to rescue a child who was on the track and was about to be hit by the train.
The Ravi Road police have handed over the body of the martyr to his relatives after legal formalities. He will be buried in his parental village in Sheikhupura.
However, the police failed to locate the child who was saved by the retired police officer at the cost of his own life.
