LAHORE – Quetta Gladiators beat Islamabad United by three wickets in the eighth Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 match at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday evening.
Chasing a below-par 139-run target for victory, Quetta Gladiators crossed the finishing lines with three wickets in hand and 10 balls to spare. Jason Roy was the top scorer with 37 runs followed by skipper Rilee Rossouw who made 34 runs while Sherfane Rutherford scored 29 runs.
Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah bagged two wickets each, Ruman Raes and Hunain Shah took one wicket each while one batter was run out. Rilee Rossouw was named player of the match for guiding the side to victory with a composed knock and taking two valuable catches.
After being asked to bat first by Gladiators skipper Rilee Rossouw, United made a steady start but fell behind in the second half of the innings due to regular setbacks. In the end, United managed to reach 138/9 in the allotted 20 overs.
Agha Salman was the top scorer with 33 runs followed by Alex Hales who made 21. Colin Munro and Faheem Ashraf made 20 runs each. Jordan Cox scored 19 runs. No other batter could manage to reach double figures. Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Waseem bagged three wickets each and Akeal Hosein took two wickets while Mohammad Hasnain got one wicket.
Gladiators fielded the same Playing XI while United made one change.
