In its major crackdown on the terror network being operative in Punjab, the Counter-Terrorism Department arrested five terrorists including an important commander of the proscribed outfit Al-Qaeda from Lahore and other districts.
The CTD police recovered material used in making suicide jackets, explosives, weapons and banned literature from the possession of arrested militants. The terrorists were identified as Farooq Shah, Saifullah, Syed Shahzeb, Ahmad Khan and Israr Ahmad.
According to the CTD, the terrorists had completed their full preparation to carry out terror activities in sensitive districts. During combing operation this week, the CTD checked more than 21,000 people and arrested 153 suspicious persons.
Earlier, the Counter-Terrorism Depart ment claimed to arrest a suspected terrorist during an intelligence-based operation in Islamabad.
The Counter-Terrorism Department and other institutions conducted a joint raid on a tip-off in Islamabad and arrested a suspected terrorist. The raiding team found a large quantity of arms and ammunition in the custody of the arrested suspect.
The spokesperson said in a statement that the IBO was conducted under the supervision of the senior superintendent police Counter-Terrorism Department.
