LAHORE – Punjab Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal on Saturday directed the implementation of foolproof security arrangements and strict adherence to SOPs during Muharram-ul-Haram.
During Muharram, 37,376 gatherings are expected to take place in Punjab, and a security plan has been devised for all of them.
A total of 10,426 processions will be held across the province, and no processions or gatherings will be allowed at any location other than the designated routes and venues.
In the meeting, it was recommended to impose restrictions on the movement of 1,200 individuals to prevent potential incitement.
Section 144 will be enforced throughout Punjab during Muharram, and 502 locations in the province have been declared sensitive.
The army and rangers will also be deployed.
The Punjab Home Secretary said that peace committees in the districts should be activated to ensure compliance with all SOPs. Comprehensive monitoring of all gatherings and processions should be ensured, and hate speech on social media will not be tolerated, with strict action taken against violations.
The Punjab Home Secretary also mentioned that the use of loudspeakers in violation of the law will not be permitted.
The meeting was attended by the Punjab Home Secretary, Special Home Secretary, Commissioner and DC Lahore, Special Branch, CTD, SPU and representatives of all intelligence agencies, who provided briefings on the arrangements.
Commissioners, RPOs, DCs, and DPOs from across Punjab participated via video link.
