PTI workers stage sit-in outside RO office

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed candidate of NA 47, Barrister Shoaib Shaheen Sunday staged a sit-in outside the

Returning Officer (RO) office Islamabad, demanding transparency in the electoral process. Accompanied by his supporters and party workers, Shaheen staged demonstration outside the office to register protest against alleged rigging in the Feb 8 elections. The demonstration, which unfolded outside the RO office, witnessed chants and slogans against the retuning officer’s alleged discrepancies

in the electoral process. Shaheen, along with party workers, highlighted the importance of fairand impartial elections. They observed that sit-in was staged inreaction as the Islamabad police did not allow them to stage a peacefuldemonstration.

However, the sit-in also faced opposition from Islamabad police. Aheavy contingent of police was also deployed outside the RO office. Thepolice also took the prisoner van outside the RO office.

On the other hand, the PTI workers kept raising slogans against the ROIslamabad. The scene outside the RO office was marked by heightened tensions asboth protesters and law enforcement stood firm on their respectivepositions. The confrontation between the demonstrators and police escalatedbriefly, with verbal exchanges and attempts to deter the protest. Amidst the commotion, a significant deployment of police personnel waswitnessed outside the RO office, aimed at maintaining law and order. Earlier, Shoaib Shaheen moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC),challenging the results of the NA-7 Islamabad-II constituency. He wasdefeated by PML-N candidate Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, who linched theconstituency by bagging 102,502 votes. The independent candidate challenged the results issued by the returningofficer (RO) in the court.
