The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has placed a ban on import of GSM amplifiers and boosters by all licensees or non-licensees entities as its import and keep its use only confined to licensed Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs).
This directive has been issued on the complaints and after the trend that people were using the illegal signal boosters to strengthen their cellular reception.
As per sources, field monitoring by the Frequency Allocation Board (FAB), and complaints from the CMOs to PTA confirmed that there was an increasing trend of using GSM amplifiers and boosters by the general public, which is causing interference in CMOs’ frequency bands and deteriorating the quality of mobile services for users across the board.
