PSL 2024, Match 3: Sultans thrash Kings by 55 runs

MULTAN – Multan Sultans thrash Karachi Kings by 55 runs in the third match of Pakistan Super League Season 9 at the picturesque Multan Cricket Stadium on Sunday evening.

Chasing a 186-run target for victory, Karachi Kings kept losing wickets at regular intervals right from the start and ended up at 130/8 in the allotted 20 overs. Veteran Shoaib Malik was the top scorer with 53 runs followed by skipper Shan Masood who made 30 runs. Kieron Pollard made an unbeaten 28 runs. No other batter managed to reach double figures and Kings fell short of the Sultans score by 55 runs. Muhammad Ali bagged three wickets, David Willey and Abbas Afridi two each while Usama Mir got one wicket. Reeza Hendricks was named player of the match.

After being asked to bat first by Karachi Kings skipper Shan Masood, Reeza Hendricks (79) and Dawid Malan (52) steadied the ship with a 121-run partnership after losing skipper Mohammad Rizwan at 17. A cameo from Khushdil Shah (28) helped Multan Sultans to post a decent 185/2 in the allotted 20 overs. Mir Hamza and Daniel Sams bagged one wicket each.

The Sultans have had an upper hand over the Kings recently as they won four out of the last five PSL matches. After losing four matches in a row, the Kings won the last match in PSL 8.
