PAKISTAN Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Thursday announced a series of public meetings after Eidul Fitr, starting from Balochistan for, what it called, the supremacy of the Constitution, law and democracy. Talking to media persons in Rawalpindi, after having a meeting with Imran Khan in Adiala jail, senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser said the first rally would be held in Pishin district of Balochistan as part of the protest movement.
The PTI is presently facing serious troubles due to its own miscalculations, which have been complicated by a multitude of political developments and Constitutional and legal issues and challenges. It fared well in the recent general elections underlining its unfazed popularity but it is understandable that the party needs to maintain its momentum to remain politically relevant in months and years to come. The party has already built a narrative of ‘stolen’ elections to keep up the spirit of workers and supporters and now together with some other ‘aggrieved’ parties it has chalked out a comprehensive programme to mobilize masses in its favour. It is, no doubt, democratic rights of parties to remain in touch with the people but rallies and protest meetings must remain peaceful and within the bounds of decency. The PTI and other parties are fully entitled to air their grievances on any issue but the country can no more afford politics of chaos and disruption as we witnessed in the past. The national economy is still fragile and a tranquil and peaceful environment is a pre-requisite for success of the strategy being implemented by the Government to bring the country back on economic track. It is also important that speeches and statements of leaders should be sobering and must not add to the societal polarization as the challenges facing the country demand complete unity. All parties commit to it that their politics would be based on real issues and not propaganda and fake news.
