In Mardan, frustration over delayed road construction boiled over as residents from various areas took to the streets in protest against what they deemed as sluggish progress and stalling tactics by the district administration and contractors. Led by prominent figures including political leader Abdul Samad Mohmand, social activist Dr. Inam, and Union Council chairman Babini Muhammad Ali, the demonstration underscored mounting discontent.
Former Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for KPK Provincial Assembly, Ibrahim Beland, and representatives from different political factions joined forces with the community to voice their grievances. The protesters, including Abdul Samad Mohmand of Muslim League (N), Dr. Inam, Muhammad Hassan Khan Advocate, and others, rallied for action on the Mardan-Katlang one-way road, emphasizing the urgent need for construction progress and the allocation of additional funds.
Tempers flared as the demonstrators halted traffic on the Katlang-Mardan road for two hours, chanting slogans directed at both the district administration and Public Health Authority (PHA) officials. The focal point of their outrage was the sluggish pace of construction and the apparent lack of sufficient funds.
During the protest, speakers emphasized the immediate commencement of construction work and the prompt disbursement of funds to contractors, condemning any further delays. Additional Assistant Commissioner and DSP intervened, pledging to escalate the demands of the local leaders to the district administration for swift resolution.
With assurances from the authorities, the local leaders concluded the protest peacefully, setting a one-week deadline for the district administration to address their concerns. The demonstration served as a potent reminder of the community’s resolve and their demand for expedited action on crucial infrastructure projects.
