Women, the most vulnerable segment of the population in Punjab, are at the mercy of the criminals due to poor performance of police. Recently, a woman was raped on a road of Punjab and police failed to apprehend the rapists. But, in a latest incident a university girl was harassed by a person who is considered to be a protector of the people, a police officer, when she was staying in a local hotel.
According to details, Arshad Bhatti, in-charge of L-Block, Nawab Town Police Station, kept harassing the student during a so-called routine checking. Kinza, a student of the university, had stayed at the Grand Hilton Hotel a day ago. The ugly incident was captured by the CCTV camera. It took place at two o’clock after midnight. The footage showed that Arshad entered the hotel with his subordinates who stood at the reception. He entered her room and harassed her. Then he kept on asking for her phone number. He also used vulgar language.
Kinza has demanded senior police officers to take notice of the incident and said that action should be taken against Arshad and other officials. As the details came to limelight, Lahore Police Chief Muhammad Umar Sheikh took cognizance of the incident. The CCPO has ordered the Sadar SP to investigate the incident and submit inquiry report immediately.
He said action would be taken against the responsible officials in the light of the inquiry report. He said that it was the duty of police to ensure the safety of life and property of the citizens. He warned his subordinates of stringent punishment if found negligent of their duty.
