The Pakistan People’s Party and Istehkam-e-Pakistan on Monday agreed to support Pakistan Muslim League-N in the election of the remaining Senate seats, the sources privy to the development said.
The sources said that the PML-Q also extended support to the PML-N in this regard.
The assurance came in a meeting of the parliamentary leader of the said parties in Lahore. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was chairing the meeting. Marriyum Aurangzeb, Mussadik Malik and other PL-N senior leaders were also present there.
Ghazanfar Abbas Sheena represented the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party. PPP leader Faiza Malik’s candidacy, they said, was withdrawn and the step was lauded by the PML-N leadership.
The participants said that withdrawal by the PPP woman leader is a positive step. They also presented suggestions and recommendations about the polls.
“I’m the chief minister of all of you. Let’s move forward with unity,” Maryam Nawaz was quoted as saying. She said that they would work together for the sake of the country. The Punjab CM said, “No area will be deprived of development.”
Haider Gillani, the PPP leader, said that the woman candidates became strong contenders, and announced to vote Bushra Butt and Anusha Rehman.
He assured the PML-N candidates that the PPP would vote for them during the upcoming senate elections as few seats had fallen vacant.
On it, Marriyum Auranzeb, the senior Punjab minister, expressed gratitude for the PPP and all others who extended their support.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said, “Thank you all for supporting the Senate candidacy,” pointing out that every success was now attached to Nawaz Sharif.
Musaddik Malak said every success is attributed to the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, adding that she would become the voice of all in the Senate. The sources said that the matters of transfer and posting of the officials and recommendations of the PPP leaders also came under discussion.
“The meeting also deliberated upon the matters of handing over the responsibilities to the PPP leaders as both PML-N and PPP are allies,” they added.
