With the approach of springtime, most residents in capital city look forward to trading in the icy weather for milder temperatures and blossoming flowers and trees.
But as the days grow longer, the budding trees and blooming flowers are also bearers of an unwelcome reality: the start of the allergy season.
As climate change shortens springtime in Islamabad and makes it much less rainy, pollen allergy problems are skyrocketing.
The pollen count reached 4,280 per cubic meter of air in Islamabad on Sunday, high enough to pose a serious threat to the health of allergy patients.
As per the data released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the total pollen count is 4,280 in the H-8 sector of the federal capital. Pollen concentration in G-6 was recorded at 1,020, E-8 at 1,054 and 411 in the F-10 sector of the federal capital.
